Here is a brief comparison of a few Amp Simulators..
It's my Squier Classic Vibe '60's bridge pickup, completely dry, playing a few chords, riffs, copied to a few tracks with just an amp sim on each track, no other fx.
They are (in no order here, although in the comparison I introduce each one)
IK Multimedia Amplitude 4, Fender Custom pro, Mesa Boogie triple rectifier.
Waves PRS Special collection V9 and Archon
Plugin Alliance Diezel VH4 and Chandler
There is a mix of clean, crunch and driven sounds, no specific pattern I'm afraid, maybe I should have done, clean, crunch and driven on each one?
Let me know what you think...

Thanks for that Rich.Very interesting.Different strokes and all that but I liked the sound of the MM Amplitude, although the V9 is good value for the price..not a huge difference between the two. Personally don`t like too much distortion..got enough background noise with the animals & kids but the Diezel & Marshal are great for metalheads. Liked the Chandler too, though the Mesa Boogie sounded like it was coming from next doors toilet.
I can do another clean version, for you, the prs has some great clean tones
